WHAT DO UNARMED SECURITY GUARDS DO?

Unarmed security guards provide a professional, visible security presence that deters threats without the use of a firearm. Our unarmed officers are trained to observe, report, and respond to situations using communication skills, de-escalation techniques, and established post procedures. They handle access control, monitor foot traffic, conduct perimeter checks, document incidents, and coordinate with local law enforcement when needed. For many South Bend businesses and organizations, an unarmed officer is exactly the right level of coverage.

Unarmed security is not a lesser option. It is often the preferred solution for environments where a calm, approachable presence matters as much as deterrence. Our officers are uniformed and professional, and they carry the full backing of a company with over 30 years of combined law enforcement and private security experience.

Unarmed security guard services are well suited for a wide range of industries and environments throughout South Bend and the surrounding region. Here are the sectors we most commonly serve with unarmed officer deployments:

Our unarmed officers are regularly deployed across several key industries in South Bend and northern Indiana:

  • Retail. Shopping centers, storefronts, and big-box locations benefit from a visible officer who can deter shoplifting, manage customer disputes, and monitor entrances. We have provided retail store security across the South Bend area.

  • Healthcare. Clinics, medical offices, and care centers need officers who project calm authority. We have experience providing security at healthcare facilities in the region.

  • Events and Venues. Festivals, community gatherings, sporting events, and corporate functions benefit from unarmed crowd management. We have staffed events ranging from Notre Dame tailgates to youth soccer tournaments in South Bend.

  • Manufacturing and Warehousing. Facilities with shift workers, valuable equipment, and large perimeters can benefit from unarmed access control and overnight monitoring.

  • Commercial Property. Office parks, apartment communities, and mixed-use developments throughout St. Joseph County frequently rely on unarmed officers for routine patrols and deterrence.

UNARMED VS. ARMED SECURITY: CHOOSING THE RIGHT FIT

The right type of officer depends on your environment, your clientele, and the level of risk your site presents. Here is a straightforward comparison to help you decide:

Unarmed officers are typically the right choice when:

  • Your setting requires a customer-facing, approachable presence.
  • Your facility serves vulnerable populations such as patients, children, or the elderly.
  • De-escalation and communication are more valuable than a show of force.
  • Local regulations or venue policies restrict firearms on premises.

Armed officers may be appropriate when:

  • Your site handles high-value assets, cash, or sensitive materials.
  • The threat level or crime history of the location is elevated.
  • You need a strong visible deterrent against armed intrusion.

We offer both options through our security guard services, and our team can help you determine which is the better fit. Check our Google Profile to see what South Bend clients say about working with us.

INDIANA LICENSING AND TRAINING STANDARDS

Every unarmed security officer we deploy meets the licensing requirements set by the State of Indiana. All of our officers are licensed by the State of Indiana and carry documentation to verify their credentials. Our proposal package includes liability insurance, Errors and Omissions coverage, and Additional Insured listing, with a Certificate of Insurance provided to every client.

Beyond licensing, we invest in the ongoing training and development of every officer on our team. Our training program includes both classroom instruction and on-the-job experience, covering security procedures, incident documentation, de-escalation techniques, and site-specific post orders. Gene Mikolajewski, our principal and owner, brings over 22 years of experience with the South Bend Police Department along with more than 30 years of combined law enforcement and private security expertise. That background shapes how every officer on our team is prepared and held accountable.
